3 More Pineapples

Three more lovely Pineapple quilts! Making these three quilts has kept me busy for a while but it’s been fun to make them. I love these Civil War Reproduction fabric colors and love the classic pineapple block pattern as well. I did mix it up a little by bordering each with a different style block. All three quilts sold on ebay, but I’m sure I will be making more. Please keep watching eBay for more “scrappy pineapple quilts”.

After the three tops were pieced I decided to finish all the quilts the same. I used a green cotton print fabric reminiscent of the Civil War era for the backs. I machine quilted all three in an abstract all over, edge to edge design with black thread. The binding on each is black with assorted color stripes. I have made these style quilts before. You can find more detailed descriptions of how I made them on previous posts on this blog.

I-Spy 3 Ways

Working on these three I-Spy quilts was fun and a little challenging. Each measures a nice lap/crib size of 44”x54”. I wanted each one to be a little different and so I did not include all the exact same picture patches in each quilt. I ended up making the three because I couldn’t settle on one particular style. Now I’m curious to see which will go first! All three have been listed for sale on http://www.eBay.com. Please search for I-Spy quilts.

I backed each quilt differently with a complimentary fabric and each quilt has been machine quilted with an all over edge to edge abstract design and a thread color I thought worked well with that particular quilt.

Sampler Puzzle #4

I enjoy making these sampler puzzle quilts especially while using those beautiful civil war reproduction style fabrics. No two will ever be exactly alike.Sometimes I choose colors that I like together then pick a block I think will look good made up in those colors and other times the block style comes first then I pick the colors. This lap size quilt measuring 46”x55” has already been sold on eBay. I’ll probably be making more because they’re so much fun for me to make. I get to stretch my imagination just a little bit with them.

This quilt has a fun shirting style print fabric of an off white with navy and red dots and circles for the backing. I machine quilted this in an abstract all over edge to edge design with dark blue thread.

Mystical

There are an amazing 4,320 half square triangles in this quilt top. I used 10” stack packs called “Mystery” from Island Batiks to get a good variety of colors and the result is the diamonds seem to sparkle. This large 90”x106” quilt took longer than I had anticipated to make but it really is dazzling. I’m thinking maybe another one in white and blue might be in my future to make. This one is for sale on http://www.eBay.com,please search for “ scrappy batik quilts”.

Chain piecing was the best way to get all those triangles made. I worked in small batches of each color paired with a lavender batik for the background then assembled a few blocks at a time to insure that they all had a good mix of colors. The blocks piled up and the quilt top slowly grew.

I framed all those triangles with a complimentary darker batik and a little purple inner border. I machine quilted this in an all over edge to edge abstract design with purple thread. This quilt is backed with a pink and purple batik printed with a fun stars and moons design. Even though this one took a long time to make I am very happy with how the quilt came out.

Paisley Bear Paws

The classic pattern “Bear Paw” has always been one of my favorites to make. This time I used a very colorful paisley print as the focus fabric. I used the paisley fabric in the outer border and the pads of the paws. I then picked out mostly civil war reproduction fabrics in assorted colors to make the claws and parts in the sashing. To set off all these colors,I used a plain beige fabric as the background in the paw blocks and as part of the sashing.
This very large quilt measuring 95”x 110” sold on eBay.

I needed to make a lot of triangles for these blocks so I used a popular method to construct them. I also chain pieced these triangles in batches of the block’s colors so I could keep track of all of them.

My design wall came in quite handy as I moved the blocks around to get them into a pleasing placement.

I used a medium brown thread and an all over swirls design to quilt this.

This quilt is backed with a gold fabric featuring a little print that compliments the front.
