Paisley Bear Paws

The classic pattern “Bear Paw” has always been one of my favorites to make. This time I used a very colorful paisley print as the focus fabric. I used the paisley fabric in the outer border and the pads of the paws. I then picked out mostly civil war reproduction fabrics in assorted colors to make the claws and parts in the sashing. To set off all these colors,I used a plain beige fabric as the background in the paw blocks and as part of the sashing.
This very large quilt measuring 95”x 110” sold on eBay.

I needed to make a lot of triangles for these blocks so I used a popular method to construct them. I also chain pieced these triangles in batches of the block’s colors so I could keep track of all of them.

My design wall came in quite handy as I moved the blocks around to get them into a pleasing placement.

I used a medium brown thread and an all over swirls design to quilt this.

This quilt is backed with a gold fabric featuring a little print that compliments the front.

Scotty Dogs

I had made a quilt similar to this one for my dad who loves Scotty Dogs. He recently suggested that I make another quilt like his, then put it on ebay,so I did! This large lap sized quilt measures 55”x67”. This quilt was sold on eBay.

I had fun using an assortment of scotty dog fabrics, and piecing the scotty dog blocks.

I even used a black fabric printed with little red and white scotty dogs for the backing! This one is quilted with black thread in an edge to edge abstract design.

Three Pineapples

I just love working with these civil war reproduction style fabrics.Such wonderful colors! The block pattern is an old time classic that has been working up well for me. Details on making these blocks can be seen on a previous post on this blog. The pineapple quilts I had made last year sold out quickly so I decided to make three more. All three of these have now sold on http://www.eBay.com. Guess I’ll have to plan on making some more!

In order to have a little variety of choices I made a different outer border for each one. I’m curious to see which quilt sells first! So far the most popular one has been the one with the four patch border. Turns out the four patch bordered one sold first! Each quilt was backed with the same off white with red print fabric typical of the era and all are quilted with the same edge to edge abstract design.

Northeast Animal Shelter

A box of little quilts and a lap size quilt were picked up today by a volunteer from a local animal shelter. Almost seven years ago now I adopted two kittens from the Northeast Animal Shelter located in Salem,MA. My three kitty boys enjoy the quilts I have made over the years and I though perhaps shelter kitties would find some comfort in a quilt of their own! I ended up making the quilts 20”x25” so when folded up would easily fit in the kitties’ cages, however,I’m told since the quilts could get dirty in the cages they will be put into the kitty’s carrier for a comfortable ride home instead.I used a variety of fabric scraps and yardage to make the quilts,no two are alike! I got to thinking I was leaving the dogs out,so I made a lap sized quilt with doggy themed fabrics. The lap quilt measures 50”x73”. I have given the shelter the go ahead to use the lap quilt as they see fit to raise funds for the dogs or the shelter in general. They have decided to raffle the quilt. You may purchase tickets at the shelter, winner to be pulled on Feb. 22,2022. A big thank you goes out to volunteers Rebecca and Sean for taking time out to help get the quilts to the shelter. 4 Scrappy Lap Quilts

Four different pre-cuts packs and four different block patterns makes a nice little group of quilts. Each quilt top was made using one pre-cuts pack of batik fabric plus some batiks from my stash. The quilts all ended up as nice lap sizes around 48”x64”. I love how they all came out so different. I’m sure I will be making more in different colors and different patterns. These quilts are up for sale on http://www.eBay.com. Please search for “scrappy batik quilts”.
