Churn Dash

I’m working with some of my Civil War Reproduction fabrics again,as well as some fabrics in similar colors and designs. This time I’ve chosen a classic block that lends itself nicely to scrappy combinations. I did use an off white fabric printed with mini black flowers as the background in each block to manage all the scrappy colors. This quilt measures 57”x68” a nice throw size. This quilt was sold at a local church fair.

The border fabric has cute little houses in assorted colors on a navy blue background. I surrounded the inner churn dash block with simple strips of color to make a bigger block and add more scrappy colors to the mix.

I used a mini floral print in colors complimenting the front for the backing and hand guided machine quilted in an all over abstract design with a dark blue thread. I like how this one turned out!

Boho Bear Paws

A colorful paisley fabric is the focus and inspiration for this large Bear Paw quilt. I picked coordinating fabrics and tried to match the colors to that paisley as best I could. This large quilt measuring 97”x112” would look great on a queen sized bed but could also fit a king only with a little less overhang. This quilt is up for sale on eBay. Please search for “Boho Bear Paw Quilt”.

While I did take this picture outside on a sunny day the sky was slightly overcast, possibly from the smoke from up north. Even so,photos never seem to really capture the colors correctly. This quilt is truly brighter and richer in person.

I hand guided/machine quilted this one in an all over edge to edge organic leaf/vine design with a blue thread. I think the design compliments the paisley fabric on the front.

Green T

Color placement within the block is key to the design of this quilt. I had some Island Batik strip sets in assorted greens and thought it was time to put them to work in a quilt. I had made this log cabin variation block many times before mostly in scrappy renditions and only a few times as the letter “T”. While sewing the blocks and placing the colors the name of the quilt came naturally.

As I was finishing up another quilt for a customer I had shown that person pictures of blocks I was working on and that I was naming the quilt “Green T”. To my surprise the quilt was bought by that person even before it was finished! The quilt measures 86”x101” and has already been finished and sent to it’s new home. I’m thinking maybe making a blue and white quilt in the same style and naming it “Ice T” ? It’s a fun block to make and I enjoy working with those beautiful batik strip sets.

Bluebelle

This quilt was commissioned by a repeat customer. They enjoyed the first quilt they had purchased and asked if I could make another in a different color. I was more than happy to create another quilt for them and in the colors they requested. It’s always nice to know how well received my quilts are, most of the time I never know. The colors in this quilt are based on the quilt pictured in the banner of this blog. We conversed via email about all the particulars including the machine quilting which ended up being a pattern with hearts and paw prints,so cute!

Colorful Bear Paw

I enjoy making these colorful Bear Paw quilts and hope to make more in the future, but for now, this will be the last one featuring the paisley print used in the paw pad. There are a few of my quilts like this one out in the world that use this fabric but I only had just enough left to make this quilt. Now with only 1/3 of a yard left I’ll have to wait til something new and just as colorful comes along.
This large 87”x 101”quilt is up for sale on eBay,please search for “Colorful Bear Paw Quilt”.

Working with all these colors makes the process fun and that wonderful paisley print tied them all together.

I quilted this one in an all over abstract design with an off white thread. The backing is an off white with an ornate brown design.
