Galaxy

This quilt is similar to one I previously made called “Mishegas”. I enjoyed making that one so much I thought I’d try it again. This time I used an assortment of purple and turquoise batiks and made smaller blocks that are 8” square. Placement of these blocks created the swirl illusion and that reminded me of pictures of galaxies I had seen. This large 85”x101” quilt sold on eBay.

I cut 2 1/2” strips into 2 1/2” square patches. I chose four colors for each block and sewed the patches in a diagonal design. The blocks were then grouped in fours with the diagonals placed so that I got an impression of a diamond. These groups of four were how I built the quilt. I backed this quilt with a purple and turquoise batik and quilted it in an all over edge to edge abstract design with purple thread.

Zebra

A modern take on a classic design. This striking combination of black and white really shows the importance of color value. I had a nice group of black print fabrics that I had collected and was looking for a way to use them.I chose to pair them with some white on white print fabrics to add a little texture to the “negative space” that I knew I was going to have. I thought of the Log Cabin design as a perfect two tone quilt and everything just fell into place naturally. I like the results of this pairing. This contemporary queen sized quilt (83”x99”) is up for sale on http://www.eBay.com. Please search for “ black and white log cabin quilt “.

I placed the blocks I made in the classic setting called “barn raising”. I chose to quilt this one in an all over edge to edge abstract design with black thread. The backing I used was a white fabric printed with a floral design. This quilt is finished with a narrow solid black border complimentary of the solid black squares in the center of each block.

Periwinkle

This traditional design called “Log Cabin” was one of the first styles of quilt that I learned to make. For this one I chose to place the blocks in the “Barn Raising” setting. I put a twist on the classic colors of blue and white by using periwinkle and royal blues,a white fabric printed with a royal blue floral design and buttery yellow fabrics for added accent. I liked the way this one turned out. This 84”x100” queen sized quilt is available for sale on http://www.eBay.come. Please search for “Blue & White Log Cabin Quilts”.

I made a few different blocks then set them into appropriate places to get the look I wanted.

I quilted this one in an all over edge to edge abstract vine design with royal blue thread. The blue and white floral backing compliments the front of the quilt where I did use some of it in the blocks.

Himalaya

Tons of triangles! There are actually 2,040 triangles in this quilt. That’s including both the large white ones and all the little ones. I usually don’t make quilts with so much white fabric, but after seeing a similar antique quilt that was white with assorted colors,I thought I’d give it a try. I chose to work with an assortment of light and medium blues to set off the white. All those snow peaks and blue sky patches made me think of the Himalayas. This large 87” x 102” quilt sold on http://www.eBay.com. Please contact me if you would like me to make a similar quilt for you.

To quilt this one I used an edge to edge all over swirls design, reminiscent of the swirling winds above the Himalayas. The white with light blue print backing compliments the front.
