Cats n’ Dogs

I made this cute lap quilt for one of my Veterinarians who is retiring. This wonderful person cared for my pets for over 18 yrs. The years went by so quickly. Having a very limited time to get it done, I chose to sew rows of simple squares . I alternated 6” squares of assorted cats and dogs fabrics. The quilt measures 48” x 60” and will be a wonderful cover up. I’m so glad the quilt was well received and will be enjoyed for many years.F3AA990B-4D48-432D-98C2-F991F0BDE22BI used a light gray backing fabric featuring paw prints. I then quilted this using a thicker variegated thread, so that the all over hearts design would add more interest to the back.

Serengeti

This quilt is made using animal print batiks from a group of pre-cuts called “Wild Things” by Island Batiks. This large quilt, 84”x100”,was fun to make and was sold on http://www.ebay.com. I have more of the same batik pre-cuts and would be happy to make a similar quilt for someone who is interested. B5B76EA0-ED1E-4D82-BEC8-9047CFB965CABy using that group of pre-cuts I was able to get a real scrappy assortment of animal prints. I did however add in a few pieces from my personal stash just to round out the colors a little.

8E9D54CB-6DAD-4E4A-88D2-1C6612227BB9I chose to quilt this using an edge to edge abstract flames design. I thought the pattern looked a little like waving tall grass. I think it worked well with the fabrics.

Because I didn’t have enough of one fabric to complete the backing,I used two! For interest,I cut each into two parts and put them back together again in a four patch design.

I had enough strips left over from the “Peacock” quilt to put together this large lap sized quilt, which measures 60”x73”.This time I trimmed the strips a little narrower and placed the blocks on point to create a basket weave look. I really love the colors of this quilt and how it turned out. I’m keeping this one for myself!

Salsa Samba

Leftovers are just another quilt waiting to happen! This fun quilt is made from strips of fabric that didn’t make it into a larger quilt. Always a frugal New Englander,I knew I’d find a use for them.

I cut the strips I had into 2 1/2” squares then sewed them into checkerboard blocks.

The red print batik I used to sash and border these blocks really sets them off.

The quilting design of spinning flowers in a royal blue thread adds to the movement and fun in this quilt. From bits of fabric just hanging around to a happy quilt. I even surprised myself with this one! This quilt is available for sale on http://www.eBay.com search for “scrappy batik quilts”.

Patriotic Pinwheels

A fun quilt to welcome summer! This one measures 46” x 54”. I have quilted it with an edge to edge gentle swirling design that makes me think of the breeze spinning the pinwheels. DBBF9DCD-250C-48BC-AAF3-19AF0C47D555

I made this quilt using the pinwheel block.Coloring them three different ways brings out the over all design of the quilt. This quilt would be equally great as a lap quilt, a crib quilt or as a decoration draped over a sofa or hung on a wall. This quilt was sold on http://www.eBay.com .
