Red Log Cabin

This queen sized (88”x104”) log cabin quilt was fun to make for a long distance customer. The color palette was from interest in my pineapple quilts with their Civil War Reproduction fabrics. We corresponded via email to decide on all the choices involved in making this quilt. Part of the fun was that correspondence!

One of the choices was, what color to use as the “chimney” or the very center patch of the block. Red is one of the traditional colors used in these quilts and I think this looks terrific especially with the red border pulling it all together. I precut all the “logs” to length to insure block accuracy, which also made assembly easier.

The quilt turned out great and was well received by the customer. This quilt went together well and I wouldn’t be surprised to find myself making more of them!
