This quilt is similar to one I previously made called “Mishegas”. I enjoyed making that one so much I thought I’d try it again. This time I used an assortment of purple and turquoise batiks and made smaller blocks that are 8” square. Placement of these blocks created the swirl illusion and that reminded me of pictures of galaxies I had seen. This large 85”x101” quilt sold on eBay.

I cut 2 1/2” strips into 2 1/2” square patches. I chose four colors for each block and sewed the patches in a diagonal design. The blocks were then grouped in fours with the diagonals placed so that I got an impression of a diamond. These groups of four were how I built the quilt. I backed this quilt with a purple and turquoise batik and quilted it in an all over edge to edge abstract design with purple thread.
