A modern take on a classic design. This striking combination of black and white really shows the importance of color value. I had a nice group of black print fabrics that I had collected and was looking for a way to use them.I chose to pair them with some white on white print fabrics to add a little texture to the “negative space” that I knew I was going to have. I thought of the Log Cabin design as a perfect two tone quilt and everything just fell into place naturally. I like the results of this pairing. This contemporary queen sized quilt (83”x99”) is up for sale on http://www.eBay.com. Please search for “ black and white log cabin quilt “.

I placed the blocks I made in the classic setting called “barn raising”. I chose to quilt this one in an all over edge to edge abstract design with black thread. The backing I used was a white fabric printed with a floral design. This quilt is finished with a narrow solid black border complimentary of the solid black squares in the center of each block.
